  • Longest life span car battery?

I was surprised that my Festiva's car battery lasted very long time since 98'.

Supposed they last average 5 year life span?

Any one have oldest and longest life of car battery?

    That might be a record!

I know my battery's pretty ancient, but nowhere near as old as yours...

I have an 11 year old Interstate in Uncle Fester. Been fully discharged 3 times (once for 4 years... before I got him). If you don't know, that's nearly a death sentence for a lead-acid battery. Every time I recharge it, it comes back to full capacity. Best dang batteries on the market, IMO.

yes, but those aren't automotive start-cycle batteries. Those are industrial batteries, designed to be rebuilt.

I thought I was doing well. My 03 F-150 has original battery from manufacture of Sep 02. It is slowing down on cold mornings. I guess if I lived north of the Mason-Dixon it would toast.

I have to agree. I changed the battery in my '78 G20 a few years ago. It had a 40 month Interstate battery in it that was just a tick over 13 years old. Took it into the local auto parts store that carries Interstate and told them that it's pretty sad that a 40 month battery only lasted that long and I expected full warranty. They still talk about it. LOL

I had one last 13 years in a 81 LTD one time. It may have been an Interstate.

My '95 Windstar went 10 years on the original battery, only didn't start once at -45C. I never plugged in the block heater either. I was amazed with that battery. I wonder if motorcraft makes their own or who does makes them.

May not even be lead-acid, there were a number of other competing battery technologies at the time, but lead-acid won out.
This was prior to anything being known or understood about lead toxicity, probably wouldn't make it to the market today.

Sort of off topic but it has to do with batteries....

My '64 Ford Galaxie died in front of a local speed shop so I went inside and asked for a boost. They guy comes out and pulls his Chev 1/2 ton in front of my car and mumbles something about "stupid Fords". Here's what I think is the funny part... his battery was a Motorcraft and the one in my car was AC/Delco. I didn't say anything other than thank you!
