  • First Festy purchase...please advise!

    Hi all,

I found a 91 GL automatic. Has a few dents on the exterior and a couple rust spots. The interior seems to be in pretty good shape. The owner is asking $500, but I'm sure I can talk him down a bit. It started right up cold and runs well. My biggest concern is that there is oil all over the engine. Any advice on what to beware of? I've got a few pics..

    Thanks

if the body is in decent shape and it runs, for $500 i would buy it

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Sounds like a good deal. The leaks mainly come from two places, first the valve cover gasket. then the front main seal. Let us know if you get it.

Oklahoma did away with the inspection mess saveral years ago, it was a racket for sure but it kept some time bombs off the road as well.

Now you see all kinds of junk driving down the road. They used to be able to fail you if you had a crack in the windshield that obstructed forward visibility but you see people driving around with all kinds of stuff hanging from the rear view and suction cupped to the windshield. Those people that drive around with the windows nearly covered with scribbles from shoe polish have to be a road hazard!!

They could fail you for a pin hole in the exhaust, even when it's past all the emmision stuff.

You got a great deal. Festivas in that kind of shape and mileage usually go for double what you paid.

The automatics are a lot of fun to drive. They're really peppy and quick off the line, and you can still get decent MPG if you go easy on them - my '89 auto gets about 36 mpg highway.
