  • Maryland Saety Inspection Blues...

I took my new festy to get inspected and it did not pass . It needs a steering rack boot, CV boot (had an extra axel in the back when I bought it!), battery hold down, wiper blades, lic plate light and the right rear spindle and nut (the previous owner apparently stripped it out). Guess it could be worse...

I called around to all the junk yards in the area and had no luck. Hopefully I can find the parts online or someone here has some extra parts sitting around.

So, I'm one step closer to being on the road!

Getting closer!! That right rear spindle nut is apparently a common malady...There are a great many FF.com members in your area that I'm sure will be glad to help. Good Luck!

cali doesnt inspect cars either. just evil smog laws. the chp has the right to do such things, but the funding to pay them kinda stopped in the 1960's.

When I got mine inspected a few years ago I got the cv boot and steering boots from the local parts guy. I haven't been to the yard in laurel for a few months but they had at least 5 festys there last time. If you can't find a spindle I think Ive still got one laying around.

Cherry Bomb failed inspection right after I changed the engine. It was supposedly for the donut gasket between the down pipe and the cat. I did not feel like screwing with it and paid them to fix it to pass. A couple months later, I had to change the oil pan gasket and when I seperated the down pipe from the cat, it was the old donut. Those crooks!

For a Maryland inspection thats not to bad, They will ALWAYS find something, thats how they make their money, not by inspecting them but the labor to fix the stuff, ever notice how they always find "easy jobs" to fail you on ??

                          An honest mechanic.

The mechanic called yesterday afternoon, to tell me I didn't need to replace the spindle! After they cleaned up the threads they found that it was only the nut that was stripped...one less part I need to find. I called the junk yard in Laurel, and they didn't have anything

I got lucky, they could have taken adantage of the situation and given me a whole laundry list of things on the inspection. This wasn't to bad.

My Jeep just went in for inspection... I paid $18 to have my air pressure "balanced" in all the tires. It's an f'ing Jeep.

Off to the regular old garage next year... Where it's never more than the standard cost, unless it ACTUALLY needs something.
