  • What happens after 85mph...

    Hello,

Long story story, you have to go 90 on I4, or you'll die. So I was wondering what happens to the speedometer in the Festiva after, say, 90-100? Does it start clicking? Does it start to break?
    Current cars:

1993 Ford Festiva 5-Speed - Festiclese III - Cousin of the Banhammer - "The Jalopnik Car"
    1984 Toyota Cressida - 2JZGE Swap, Turbocharged.
2013 Mazda Mazda2 - Exhaust and Wheels (the daily)
    2002 Toyota Tundra - V6/Auto/2WD - The Tow Vehicle.

It'll just bury down... or, stop at the peg (I forget, without looking at my speedometer).

It won't break... You'd have to be going pretty darn fast to break the speedo from spinning too far.

          What happens after 85mph...

...nothing, you just go various speeds of 85mph, some of which can pass people going 95mph that's all.

Every car I have owned has had a turbo in it, until I bought this latest festiva.. I plan to fix that though.

If you have a trip odo (tach cluster only) it just sits on the reset peg!

But I've hear the matter/anti-matter contaiment sometimes fails at those speeds.
Something to do with a software glitch, microsoft is working on a patch!;-)

but seriously when I brought my festiva home it was late in the middle of nowhere with no one around, so I wanted to see what she would do and since I have a tach it just stopped at the pin. I had a friend driving behind me in a jeep and he said I was blowing away from him at 90 or so. I also have a plymouth trailduster and I got the odometer to loop around to the 25mph mark, so it wont break.

At that speed you will get a "Danger to manifold" message.

on Festiva's can you cut the peg off in the cluster and will it go farther down? or better yet, cut your speedometer needle off so it'd clear the bottom at the 6:00 position. Would it even loop around?

it's on a looped pressure spring (I don't know if that is what it is actually called), so it will just keep turning based on how much force is applied to it.

That's only after you hit the second 50 shot of N2O2.
