I'm about to do a camshaft seal, crankshaft seal, timing belt, H20 pump and tensioner job and was wondering if anybody knows if any electric impact wrench has enough torque to remove the crank bolt. Does anybody know if Harbor Freight impacts are strong enough? I know most of these are rated at 250 ft/lbs but how accurate is that? I'm probably gonna go buy a Harbor Freight one because so far, even though their tools are inexpensive, they've been really awesome.

Any suggestions for what brand of electric impact wrench?

I would stay away from Harbor Freight impacts. Harbor Freight has some great stuff, but IMO, power tools are not one of them. I use a RIDGID brand from Home Depot. It has more than enough torque for the crank bolts, or anything else for that matter. A close second would be the DeWalt.http://www.cardomain.com/id/hawkdoc60

I have a 20 year old Craftsman.
Only has about 210 ft-lbs torque but hasn't let me down yet!
That said, I'm pretty sure they don't make them like this anymore.
If you get one make sure it has a good warranty or maybe someone can recommend a more reliable brand.'93 Blue 5spd 230K(down for clutch and overall maintanence)

i have one from a cummins tool sale that works great (prob the same as harbor freight). i've had it for 3 yrs, and i abuse and don`t maintain most of my power tools. it was around $25, so if anything ever goes wrong, i`ll just pick up another one. i have a craftsmen unit as well, but it is misplaced at the moment. it is no better imo
