plastigauge

hey, anybody know the most useful plastigauge/metalgauge. to buy. not sure the exact name but it's for measuring really thin gaps. i'm trying to see if my heads cracked(the one in my car!) and the block, but there's a heck of alot out there. are cheap brands useless? or any thing is good? cheers

pretty much all plastigage from my experience is created equal.. different colors indicate different squish for tolerances..any brand should do fine.

Plasti-gauge isn't use to measure a crack in a head....any crack in the head is too big.

Plasti-gauge is used to measure the gap in sleeve bearing fits....like those on the crankshaft.

The last time I bought some...Plasti-Gauge Brand...it was about $2.50 per strip...make sure you by the right color(s). Also it has a shelf life...does not last forever.

sorry my bad... looking for warping. the whole straight edge gap measuring. hoping to have it finished today but not willing to put it back together with anything warped.

The head warpage is measured with a staight edge and a 'feeler gauge'

thanks, eh. measured the head warpage. had to cut down my new $15 dollar level, but, not finding any warpage, i was unaffected. not even when my new feeler gauge tool fell apart... probly gonna need some lock tight on that nut...
