  • Question about festiva A/C

    Group,

I'm in the process of selling off three complete A/C systems to other members. A question has come up regarding wiring. Does anyone know how much wiring is already in place behind the dash in festys that didn't come with A/C? I'm wondering if like the power mirrors or tach clusters, Kia just bundled most everything in to all of them, then gave some options whille others stayed L models.

    thanks,

when i did mine, it only had the wiring to make the cooling fan come on, i think. but my setup was also a dealer system, so it was a little different from the factory ones.
89 L, hopefully returning from the dead soon with a little more power...

different places for all the relays for one thing. i think the compressors were a little different too. maybe belts... thats all i know. the wiring was the main thing that i noticed was different from the ford manual.

With the vast array of festy knowledge on this board, I was hoping this question would be figured out backwards and forwards. Perhaps I posted in the wrong section? Repair forum? FX

Ok I also have a 91 however I am not finding the wiring for A/C. I haven't found the wire for the A/C on/off switch or the wire for the switch on the evaporator, also could you take a picture of your A/C relays (under the battery tray I belive) I'm not sure if the relays I have are for A/C.

There is a harness that plugs into the dash that you need.

It has the connectors for the A/C switch, the control amplifier box, and goes through the firewall to the engine bay, where it plugs into another harness.

This harness has a single rectangular connector (if I remember right, been a few years) that plugs in under the right side of the speedometer. Undo that and the whole harness kind of pulls out from the glovebox side.

Also, you need the short piece of cable that goes from the heater box to the A/C evaporator core. One end of it is connected to the driver's side of the box and it snakes behind there to the A/C core.

edit: This wiring is not present on Festivas without A/C and is needed to make it work. There are 2 variations to the harness that I am aware of - one uses the control amplifier under the heater box, and the other one doesn't.

I don't know if this helps or not. I just retrofitted a/c on my non-a/c 88 lx yesterday. We had pulled all of the wiring off the donor car in the jy. However, the plugs that were supposed to be under the dash were all where they were supposed to be...
