  • Ethanol Free Gas

Here in Greenville ,S.C., there are four gas stations selling ethanol free gas. Noticed one about a month ago and now has grown to four. All have large banners advertising this. The one i buy my gas at says his business is up now. And to beat all, it's cheaper than the 10 per cent mix they sell everywhere else. I hope i will start getting better mileage in all my vehicles.

I can tell by the way it smells. Here, we don't have vapor recovery systems on the pumps and i can get a good whiff of it. There is definitely a difference in the smell test.

I hope that trend continues. You should see an increase in MPGs with the unblended gas.
            Ahhh......ethanol, the "feel good" fuel.

In Minnesota many gas stations(but not all) carry non-ethanol blended gas, but it is illegal to put it in modern cars. It can only be used in collector cars, outboard motors, snowmobiles, off road vehicles, etc.

Would a Festiva be considered a collector car??

Idk about other states, but I think a car has to be either 15 or 20 years old to be considered a collector car, or more correctly a "classic car"

i know in some states at least 23 years old is considered collectors and you can get the licenese plates and cheaper insurance, if you classify it as a weekend driver or equivalent. i know this is for AZ and WI where my dad has a 1976 BMW 2002..

most any unleaded gasoline vehicle can run a 10% percent grade of ethanol gas without any ill effects.

Casey's General Stores in my area sells E-free and 10% E. Same here. The E-free is a few cents cheaper.

Have any of you had issue with Ethanol in gas eating or disolving the rubber parts in the system of your Festiva? I have a little cushion at the bottom of my in tank fuel pump that turned to black goop. Any advice? Do they make this part in a rubber that is resistant to the effects of ethanol?

All automotive fuel systems are constructed of alcohol resistant materials since, I believe the late '70's.
Which was a result of the last time we decided to contaminate our fuel supply with alcohol, on a major scale.
Which oddly enough, was when the middle east realized they had us by the short hairs.

So if that is true what would make the little rubber piece in my in tank fuel tank turn to black goop?
