  • motor swap?

i just got a carbed festiva and want to swap the motor. i have a couple questions that i was hoping could be summed up pretty easily.

    1. what motor and trans is easiest to find AND easiest to install. (N/A or TURBO)

And before i do a swap i want to throw a small turbo on that i have laying around.

    2. has anyone done this before? how long did it last on 5psi? (i searched for a write up.) i probably didnt look for the right thread. idk

also, ive seen pics of a wide body kit for these cars. does anyone one know where i can find one at. the only festiva site i know is fms.

    thanks

B6 motor from a late 80's 323 would be the easiest swap.. keep the same transmission if you do that.. direct swap.
mercury capri Xr2 has the B6T engine that drops in. The festiva has a Mazda B3 engine, so the mounts are the same. thats in a nut shell.. see custom engine area for more info.
Also the BP engine (mazda 1.8 engine) is found in the escort Gt and a few others.. that can be dropped in too with a little more work.

-Escort GT 91 donor car with BP, G5M-R tranny to be dropped in the little guy...

The B6T requires a custom right side mount, due to the DOHC configuration. Not a "drop in."

The B6 would be easiest. If I did it, it's easy.

seeing as you are carbed you will need to do a lot of wiring if you put an EFI engine in, and you will need to change your tank and lines to an EFI one with the EFI pump in it.

b6t sounds like fun. i planned on rewiring the whole car anyways and anytime i swap motors i tuck all my wires and fuse box up in the fenders.

i still need to find that wide body kit. kinda looks like a cosworth kit? would a escort kit fit the festiva. ive seen people take neon bumpers and put them on aspires but i dont really know whats interchangeable between cars when it comes to the festiva

1: Motor & trans easiest to find, I would say the bp as it was available in the escort gt & protege. Next i think would be the b6dohc as its in the capri n/a & mx3. Then the late 80's 323 or late 80's tracer. thats just based on production numbers.

As far as making other bumpers fit, Anything can be made to fit.

                  Found a B6T in a complete car.

Thinking about a swap now myself.
I know the BP is more difficult but if I'm in there I do not like to do things half way. So I think I want a BP. But this B6T is tempting me in it's easy to go in way.
What do the American B6T run HP wise?

Power and torque outputs varied across markets due to emission and fuel standards, but the Japanese version of the B6T was the most powerful, producing 147 hp and 137 ft lb.

Yeah that was why I asked about the US version, I saw that.

But if it is in the 120 HP range, that isn't too bad.

not easily. Strut mount holes are different, steering is in a different location (can cause bump-steer) lower ball joint is in a different location (Messes with SAI and Toe-out-on-turn)
