  • You can't see my license plate!!!!

Just curious about something. I've seen a lot of pics on here with the license plates blacked. If you drive your car in public where everyone in the world can see your license plate what's the purpose of blacking it out? :confused1:

there are some plate covers that are blacked out and the real reason is they are also photo-eliminating covers so when the traffic light photo tried to get a picture of your plate, it reflects and can't read the numbers. i don't know if that is true though for all covers.

-Escort GT 91 donor car with BP, G5M-R tranny to be dropped in the little guy...

          Mythbusters says.......BUSTED!!!

but other than the supposed stealthy-ness...a tinted plate goes with your paint scheme a little better sometimes, and not necessarily black either

i think the whole trend started on honda forums. somehow thieves were getting peoples addresses by their liscence plate #'s and stealing cars with valueable sought after parts. i think its bs and i never bother with it.

People nowadays are using the black out plates like previously said for when they go thru red lights or go thru toll booths. The camera's are at an angle and high enough, the the plates look black. If you are directly behind them, you can see them. Anyway, thats my story and im sticking to it.

I do not think it came from the Honda forums......people have been doing it forever. The people in the Honda forums are given way to much credit. No matter what it is....if the Honda forum does it...then it started there....lol.

I believe as it was stated that people do not want others to know where they are. To them it is a privacy issue I guess.
