  • would this go here? '87 Toyota help

ok i wasnt sure since this isnt a festiva, so i posted it here instead of repair help. first of all, its a '87 toyota pickup, carbed, 4 spd manual, 2.2 (i think) liter engine, 167xxx miles. it has this problem that it wont idle. it'll just slow down and die most of the time. sometimes it'll run, but sounds like its missing (engine miss). we've checked the EGR, the fuel cut solenoid, the plugs, the wires, the distributor cap and rotor, and the compression (little low, but its the same on all cylinders). what i've heard from most people is there's a vacuum leak somewhere. any suggestions on how to check for vacuum leaks? none of the hoses look cracked or anything, and the way it runs, its gotta be a HUGE leak for it to cause this. we're stumped. any help or insight would be thoroughly appreciated. Thanks!
    Andy

oh and we can isolate the miss to the no. 3 cylinder. all plugs look good.
89 L, hopefully returning from the dead soon with a little more power...

    Gez,

I have two Toyotas with 20R's (you prolly have the 22R) the first thing I'd do is keep it running, or have someone keep it running while you spray starter fluid around the base of the carb, they often start to leak there. If it revs up while spraying in a certain spot, there's a vaccum leak. Sometimes it's as easy as tightening the four 12' mil bolts (they work themselves loose over the years)

    I'll keep thinking....????

    Because....45 MPG.
