Ok, as you know the new car was surging and it was suggested i take the IAC off and clean it which i did. It seemed better for awhile. I took it out for drive today and filled it with unleaded plus and also put gas cleaner in it. So i went to start it up after i filled it up and it would not start. It seemed like it was starving for gas. The more I cranked and kept hitting gas the more it seemed to want to start. So i took allen wrench and opened up the little screw on top of IAC and it started. So, by time i got home it started pulsing again. So i bypassed the IAC and took air hoses off and took connector off and it still pulsed. By bypassing i took hoses and put them together with coupler. So when i put the hoses back on, put connector back on, then it started running right again. Could the IAC be bad and if so why would it continue to pulse when i bypassed it completely and took the connector off too. Why would it work better after i connected it back up. Can the top portion that has allen screw in it be replaced or do you have to replace complete unit. And another question, why does the water lines go thru it. Does it warm the IAC up which then opens up or closes up a valve that controls the airflow? Explain it to me Ricky?? Please.

I'm thinking the VAF has a problem or some wher in the air ducts from the VAF to the throttle body.
When you bypassed the IAC the amount of air drawn in by the engine would have increased significantly and been picked up by the VAF causing the ECU to dump more gas thru the fuel injectors...the RPM's should have increased.
Check for inlet air leaks...clogged air filter...bad electrical connection at the VAF.
Dear Mod's/Admin's...maybe this thread should be relocated.Last edited by jglutz; 04-20-2009, 08:12 PM.Joe Lutz

It didnt. It just continued surging. So i put hoses back the way they were suppose to be and it started running good again. One thing im trying differently is under the allen screw is a spring and a small cap that fits over the little needle valve. When i took it apart first time, the little spring and cap fell out and i put it back in after i cleaned it. Now, the little cap is like a cup. When i put it back first time, i put it with the opening down like you would put a cup down upside down. This time when i took it apart, i put it differently. I put it so hole was up so the spring slid down inside the little cup. I took it out and drove it around and it is idling great now. I'm going to wait til tomorrow night when i get home and start it up while engine is cold. It started up with high rpm's til it warmed up then idle came down. Im going to do same thing tomorrow night and see what happens. One question Joe, does the antifreeze thats running thru it tell it when the engine is warm which in turn opens the valve up a little to allow more air, is that how it works.
