  • dilemma buying a festiva

ok so looking for a festiva for my winter beater....

so far ...found 2 ..can't decide..

    car#1
    ----------------
    1993 auto 197,000KM $500CAD

-front control arm busted $100CAD for a new one
    -hasn't run in ~8months ...
    -started it...
    -noisy engine
    -some blue smoke...even after warm-up
-couldn't drive it due to control arm
    -body great shape..very little rust
    -floors good
    -exhaust good
    -interior afirly clean
    -new tires
    -leaking oil in engine bay
    -started ok

    car#2
    -------------
    1989 5sp 102,000km $500CAD

    -needs new clutch $200CAD
-carbeurated [is this a good thing?]
    -might need new tires
    -body isn't the greatest....
    -floor is good
-interior is dirty [was mechanics car]
    -no oil leaking
    -engine purred like a kitten
-no bad fumes out the exhaust
    -started ok
-leaking exhaust where manifold meets straight pipe at the flange

are either of these worth it???? :?:

  • #2
If you want a witer beater with the least amount of work, I'd say #2. The ATX transmission insn't nearly as good in the snow, I don't think. Also lower gas mileage. If #2 runs well with lower mileage, I'd go for that. $500 Canadian sounds fair either way.

That said, a perfect Festiva body is rare. If you have any future Festiva plans, body work is probably the hardest thing you'll end up doing.

So my $.02 (US) is get em both - drive the 89 and make the 93 a cool project
