  • bought a '95 Protege today

As the title states. Got it for $120 in non-running condition. No pics, I'll have some tomorrow when the rain clears up and I bring the car home. I'm hoping to get it running well enough to drive for a couple months and eventually pull the motor, do the most basic rebuild I can get away with, and swap it into the festiva. The car sounds like it has a fuel delivery issue, although I only had a 2 minute inspection in the rain to base that on. It has 209k. Even with a rebuild, do you guys think I'm asking for trouble using a donor car with that high of mileage? Also, other than the motor, motor swap parts, and front seats, are there any other parts on the protege that anyone has found to be useable on the festiva? I did a quick search, but didn't find much info. If I missed something, I apologize.

With a good rebuild, why would you have any worries, i wouldn't.

By the way it's not even a b series motor = no swap.

Well that sucks. I looked it up online and found something that said it was a b8. Oh well. I got it dirt cheap, so I'm not too worried about it. I can still use the seats, and after an eventual Aspire swap, I can use the wheels and tires. I've gotta say, though, I feel kinda stupid now for thinking it was the b8. It's actually a 1.5L. I really like the intake manifold on it. Looks a little like an upside-down shorty header.

Went back to get the title and keys and checked things out a little closer. I barely looked at the car when I bought it, because I was in a hurry and I figured for $12 I can't really go wrong anyway. I have this disease that makes me want to rescue every P.O.S. that I see.
Sorry for the cell phone pics.

Seats are dingy, but no tears. I like the big side bolsters.

There has to be a way to use that engine. One of those in a Festiva would be so cool.

Agreed, but I'm not gonna be the guy to try it.

I think a guy threw one in an aspire before. You'd definately have to use that trans. new mounts and the wiring harness...

It's an auto, so even if I had the skills to figure out how to do the swap, I wouldn't want to. I'll probably eventually do a part out on it and see if I can make a few bucks off ebay. I'm gonna try to get it running good so I can get a couple months of use out of it first, though.

good luck - you could probly find a good manual trans on ebay to do the swap with.

No, I'm not doing a motor swap with it. I'm keeping the seats, wheels and tires. I'm also going to check and see if there's a way to use the front brakes. I'm guessing not, though.
