the 5 speed trans has a lower final drive ratio than the 4 speed right? if you were to set up a festiva for acceleration would the 4 speed be better as there would be less shifting or would the 5 be better with closer gears. just been wondering for a while now

In a normal car YES... In the Festiva the 4spd is the exact gearing that are in the 5 spd with just an EXTRA gear... Much like some Subaru transmissions, when they needed a cruising gear, they just added it later. So, if you are looking for better acceleration go with the tranny from a 5 spd Aspire and use the bell housing from the Festiva so it still bolts right up. That will give you a better mechanical advantage/higher final drive. I have heard though that it isn't nearly as noticeable as a set of gears in a Mustang would be, just a slight upgrade. So unless you are replacing the clutch already or have the tranny out of the car I wouldn't mess with it... -KyleCosmic Blue 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 - Mostly Stock...
