  • Are the escort 1.9's an interference engine

A friend at work has an escort as a beater and the timing belt broke and wants to know if its an interference engine or not

if its an interference engine the cars going for scrap and i get the rims

    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

According to this chart, it is not an interference engine. I found this app. on another forum, so please feel free to test its accuracy...I tried all escort motors and they are not...the 1.5 in my old Mitsubishi, which I know was an interference engine, checked out as just that.

Do you happen to know the year of the Escort? Apparently before 95 were, after 95 were non-interference. I think. Looking on Gates website now, and the year of his/her car would definitely help.

Okay, well forget what I just typed^^ Checked from 1990-1995, and all are coming up non-interference. And ya beat me to it sparky. Your link is the same one I was just going through.

Now, depending on how badly you want those rims, you could tell him whatever you want.
