  • One definite mistake in wheel interchagability list

Discuss improvements to your Festiva or Aspire in the handling, braking, wheels and tires areas.

Wheels off the early VW watercooled vehicles (Rabbit, Scirroco, Dasher, Audi Fox) definitely dont fit a stock Festiva. I had wheel off my Festiva and was thinking about such. Happened to have wheel off Rabbit I used to own setting around. Doesnt fit. Center hole slightly too small and bolt pattern is wrong.

I assume this applies to later VWs and to Aspires but others would know better than me. I am stuck in the 70s and 80s far as cars go..... and will only forcibly be pushed into the 90s and later. Either by lack of parts or EPA gestapo tactics.

Here is the real interchangeability list of wheels that fit the festiva.
If you do the aspire brake swap, thats where you get the 4x100mm pattern.

VW rims wil fit a Festiva ONLY if it has the Aspire brake swap.

Maybe need disclaimer on these lists about the Aspire brake swap needed. Sure somebody like me thats never worked on an Aspire will be confused. But not stupid, I'd have measurement of bolt pattern and way to check measurement in my pocket when looking at junkyard.

By way I needed a new spare for my Festiva. Found out 12 inch tires are rare and pricey anymore. They never did last very well. So dug up the original temporary spare that came with Festiva which is 13 inch. Removed the remains of the temp spare tire, cleaned and painted wheel. A 155-80R13 fits/seats nicely on it despite the sticker warning you full size tires should not be mounted on this rim.

Not sure why a disclaimer would be needed. Each section starts out with the bolt pattern and off-set. All you gotta do is scroll down to where Festivas are listed, and then look only in that section.

Never thought about putting a full size tire on the spare rim, guess I just assumed it would be too narrow to hold.

Probably because few people know the numerical description of the bolt pattern and offset of wheels on their car. But like I said you never take any list at face value, always measure before buying non OEM part.

On most cars yea the mini spare is way narrower than the regular tires/wheels. But not on a Festiva, the rim is perfect for narrow 80 profile tire. Now if you wanted to put on a low profile wide tire, say a 195-60R13 it would be too narrow I think.
