  • The Luck

I picked up a 92GL Saturday from Ohio and got it home. I found the battery was installed backwards - put a new battery in it correctly and turned it over it would run but wouldn't idle. So I gave it a tune-up and then it wouldnt start. In the process of trying to get it to run the thing caught fire. So now I have a festy with a burnt engine compartment. So the car I bought for a daily driver will now become a parts car.

initially it looks like the number 1 injector sprayed fuel onto the alt since thats where the majority of the damage is

Bummer, that sucks man. Yeah I think I am going to buy a fire distinguisher for my garage. When I changed my fuel filter I grabbed the one from the kitchen. I think it would be nice to have a big one out in the garage since all the gas, oil, etc is out there and its attached to my house.

Damn that sucks! Course you could follow Freshtivas lead and just do the B6 swap like he did. Unless the damage is even worse than his was.

Backwards? Did it start and run when you looked at it? Did the reverse polarity damage the alternator diode bridge? ECU get fried?

An injector sprayed fuel on the alternator? Was the injector installed? I'm confused. (As usual!)

Its fixable with enough time and parts however I'm not able to do the repairs at this time so I will be pulling the non burnt parts and parting it out. I will be putting some of the new parts I put on it onto the tin can project and get it back on the road. for now untill I find another daily driver and then the tin can will return to its garage life while I finish it.

I'll have to take some pictures of the damage tonight when I get home
like I said its fixable but the body on this car needs some love - again fixable but out of the scope I currently can handle at the moment
