  • Trip to U-Wrench-It

Well i've had a exciting day, nothing like going to a junkyard to plunder and pilage. I orginally went for a fuel pump for my parents 00 Impala... no luck but there were four festiva's and one aspire- unfornately. I was able to pull two tach cluster orange and white, the white one is broke though... wonder if i can take it back? 3 of em were pretty plain janes except for the one with tach and manual selt belts. The fourth is quite a find, it had front adjustable seatrest, split back seat, intermenite wipers, power mirrors, manual belts... but it's a brown interior. I may go back next week unless someone else wants it. If anybody in the kc area in interested in it i'll let ya know where it's at.... it's hidden and not with the other festiva's. Now if only they would have more aspires.

What's the matter with the white tach cluster? If a lot of things don't work, one of the connectors probably isn't seated. If the gas or temp gauge, I'm almost positive the unit is the same as in the standard clusters. If the tach, there must be something else that uses the same unit, and if anyone knows what that is/they are I'd be happy to know since I have one with a bad tach unit.

PS, WTF!! if there is any hope that anyone will ever learn how to spell gauge, the goddam spelling cow needs to be ahead of the curve  ! At least eBay seems to have finally learned that none of us are looking for Festivals

Actually if you shake it you hear a gear or something rattling in there. If you push the trip gauge it doesn't do anything, also you can move the speedo by shaking it. Don't know how I didn't catch it, excitement probably It does have 300k on it.

If your in the main aisle, between the chevy/dodge and ford, go all the way to the back of the lot. It's a white 88 or 89 and it's carbed. As far as rear wiper or defrost, it had one because of the switch didn't look close enough though. Can't remember which ones had the defrost and wiper and I think at least two others had the switches.

Don't wait too long, if it is like the U-Wrench it here, they are changing out cars on a daily basis. I went 3 weeks ago and there were 4 Festiva's in the Virginia Beach one, I went back today and there were ZERO!!!

Our U-Wrench it got bought out by Pick-n-Pull, as I found out today

I think i'm going to plan on going at least on bi-weekly basis, maybe weekly. Only cost a dollar to get in, cheaper than watching a movie and more interesting sometimes. What I find odd is alot of the cars by the crusher seemed to have alot of parts left on em. Such as headlights, tail lights etc. Another amusing fact on the yard if you go through you can tell which models has most problems with which parts. For example all of the corollas on the lot didn't have inside and out door handles, side reflectors and those are some of the parts I need.

You have to pay to get in to your yards? Hmm. all the ones aound here are free

I know what you mean about the certain cars missing aprts though. Every escort in my yard is missing the defrost button (I've got around 7 of them, and only 3 work.. good thing I only bought one, that I know worked for sure...)

yeah they charge a buck to get in, makes me feel better about the freebies i pocket  our u-wrench-it was bought out by pick-a-part earlier in the year, but it's been u-wrench it since i was a kid so as far as i'm concerend it still is lol. i'm gonna head down there this afternoon and see what treasures i can come up with.
