  • My FIRST Pick & Pull!!!

So as the title states I went to my first pick and pull today and it was AWESOME! It is really an adrenaline rush!!!

So one of the techs I work with kept telling me I should go with him to a JY near his house in NJ. I was like ok..but didn't have much faith since I had previously called this JY and asked them if they had any tivas and they said no.

Regardless we trek out there today. I learned the ettiquette of bring your own tools which the tech I was with had and we walk in. We ask the guy if he has any festys and he was like nope but I do have a few escorts. I am like ok maybe there are a couple things I can pull from them. So we walk out and right in the middle of the lot is a silver 89 festy!!! I am like yippee :-D So we go over there... granted it had been picked a part but I was like a kid in a candy store. I grabbed a right rear smooth tail light, the rear spare tire floor carpet/cover, the door panels with inside handles/arm rests and map pockets, the center console ash tray, roof moldings, and the rear seat back carpet (split back) with plugs!

Of course as I am pulling stuff another guy comes over ( I am by myself pulling stuff the tech guy went to look for stuff of his own) and says, "WOW a woman pulling her own stuff...what you got here a geo metro!" I am sure my face pretty much went from to . I should be use to the "woman" comments by now but I am sorry I can't help it...either way I disregarded the woman comment but a Geo Metro???? I couldn't let this go and I was like uhhhhhhhhhh NO! It's a Ford Festiva!!

Lol! Needless to say my face plus barking Ford Festiva at the guy scared him away!

Anyway it was definitely fun and I so want to do it again! This place was a little overpriced but I know that is because of the location/proximity to NYC but still not bad.

Sorry guys... no foxes or snakes for me. I did see a spider though!!! Lol!!!

Based on what the guy I was with had...the basics... I have that. I would be interested in your list of necessities though so please pm me. I am assuming you probably try to travel as light as possible which is smart. The tool set I got from automotive school should suit me & my newly developing pick and pull addiction just fine

hmmm a list.. well at this point I have most of the things I want so I would be pulling just to sell and/or to have spare parts...any pointers there?

You should have grabbed the tach and power mirrors if they were still there. And did you by any chance look under the passenger seat for the elusive underseat tray?

usually my list consists of the one big purchace for the day (wheels, hatch, hood, etc.) then i always look for intermitant wiper switches and escort dome lights. then there's the trim items (things that are in better shape than what i have now). that's usually what goes in my list.

i'll root through my tool bag and send you what i always take tomorrow (it's late, zzZZ)

The power mirrors were gone.. thought about pulling the wiring with switch but I was like ehhh.. forgot about the underseat tray but now that I think about I don't think they were there...I lost a side panel plug and it went under the drivers seat and there was alot of clearance. Are the underseat trays elevated off the floor? Darn it the tach was still there. Is it just unscrew the bezel & and dash paneling around the tach then pull out the tach and disconnect it? I was fascinated with orange display on the climate control especially since it had ac and mine doesn't.

The underseat tray is under the passenger seat, there is some clearance under it. The tach comes out by removing the bezel and it has 4 screws holding it in. It helps to dissconnect the speedo cable at the transmission so you can pull out on it to dissconnect things easier.

the tach can be had from the front without disconnecting the cable from the tranny if your hands are small enough to fit in behind when pulled forward. But is much easier if you disconnect the cable at the tranny ...then when you pull it forward you have all kinds of room to get behind there and disconnect things

Ironically my hands may be small enough but good info to know.

Yeah still don't think it was there. Lost another clip under the passenger side and I could see clearly under the passenger seat too.

                              Oh well.
