Generally speaking the fourspeeds come with a carbed motor - the 5 is usually EFI
Carbed has its own headaches as opposed to EFI however a 5speed swap it fairly easy from what I've heard - a lot of the older 88-90 have some of the more desireable options

The 5 speed is nice, but I wouldnt let that be a deal breaker on any car your are looking at.... Both of the festivas we've got are 4 speeds even though ideally we would have bought a 5 speed.
It also depends on how much higher speed driving you intend to do. The 4 speeds seem to do ok up to about 70.... after that it seems like your are really having to rev the engine pretty high.
I eventually plan on swapping a 5 speed into ours. But Im in no hurry as 40 mpg is still very easy to get.Previous owner of a '89 Graphite L, 4spd, GL Seats, Aspire Brakes, 14x6's, 185/60/14's
