Estimate of some paint work

Took the B6 car by a body shop today after work. The roof lost its clear coat so I wanted to get an estimate to get it repainted. I was also going to have a front and rear bumper cover, two swoopy mirrors, and a hatch spoiler painted the same color. The covers, mirrors and spoiler were off the car, no masking. Only masking would be to paint the roof. The esimate came to $776.09. Going to take it to another place tomorrow. Oh yeah, he called it a Fiesta before I corrected him. $252 refinish, $504 labor, $20.09 tax.

Apparently, the standard rate for any work on a festiva is now $500!

No doubt! $500 is more than most of us would give for a festy. I will now offer a $250 mod. ...........Motor swap (sohc only) For $250!!! Of course you provide the parts needed and motor .

Sure, its 1200 miles up here so at 40 mpg youd use 30 gals. 30 gals times $2.50/ gal = $75
Total: $250 motor swap + $75 for gas = $325.00

Paint work is expensive. On the blue car I bought the mid grade paint and materials were still well over $500, that's paint, primers, sand paper, solvents, misc.

Then I had a hundred or more hours in the work. It all adds up quickly.
