  • Festiva 4x4?

Does anyone know of a 4wd Festiva? I'm not talking all jacked up like my trucks or anything. But simply if someone converted one into 4wd. I'm sure someone... somewhere has tried. I would like to try to do it.

I thought I saw one converted over once, but it's been awhile. There's a festiva sized car all over Australia that's 4x4, but the name of it escapes my sat. night mindset... The "justy" in Europe is just a 4wd metro. It can be done, but the US gets none of the good stuff.

    FX
    Because....45 MPG.

If I were to do one, I'd use the OHV 1800cc flat-four Subaru motor, Subaru dual-range 5-speed, and Subaru LSD rear diff. Hook it all together with a welded-up full subframe, bolt the Festy to it.
90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods
09 Kia Rondo--a Festy on steroids!

The closest I think I've seen to what you are talking about was a Festiva on the drive train of a Sidekick. Not too high, but not Festiva level, either.

a subaru justy (looks very similar to the festiva) would be a great place to look for swap parts. or get a mazda gtx and with some fabrication its possible

Could put some of those electric motors from the Honda Accord to the back wheels. It'd give you a lot of torque and economy!

Blazer frame? Really... I think that would be a bit long... either way, I'm goin build one, lol

Oh wait. I see it. They just cut the blazer frame down. Thats cool. I was kinda hoping to make a 4x4 and still run the 1.3. But I think the extra weight would kinda bog it down. Then again, gear ratios are where its at when it comes to the 4x4 game.

You could use a stretched Samurai frame and running gear. And then swap in a VW diesel. That might be fun!
Is that someone there ??? 1981 VW diesel pickup---1988.5 Suzuki Samurai tin top---1993 Festiva---1974 Bricklin SV-1 ( very thirsty basket case)---2003 Tracker(bells and whistles)

Way back in the 70s when VW introduced the Rabbit, there was an aftermarket company that actually made a kit to add 4wd to a Rabbit using Rabbit engine and without adding lot extra weight. It was high dollar and sure very few were made or sold. The early Rabbits were only slightly larger than Festiva and had 1.5L or 1.6L engine. Early Omnis had carbureted 1.7L version of the Rabbit engine that Chrysler bought from VW. Even todays VW engines will bolt in early Rabbit I think and they are lot more durable.

Easiest way would be to go with Justy. two versions sold here, both offered 4wd option, and as previous poster pointed out Festivas and Justys are very simular size. just make sure you get the 5spd tranny not the automatic. Unfortunately Justy parts are really hard to come by unless you collected a few acres of parts cars when they were more prolific.

Besides the cool build factor, I just want something with 4wd for the winter that is really good on fuel. I would spend less just searching craigslist and buying a tracker, lol. Maybe down the road if I get bored.
