Got a call from my uncle a couple days ago. He's 72 years old and still races autocross in the SCCA Solo series. He's been doing it since the early '80s (with the same car) and has won numerous national championships in D Mod class. He runs an original Mini, fully stripped and modded for the class. Right now, I believe he runs a Honda engine in it.
Anyway, he will be competing in the National Finale event this weekend, which will be followed by the National Championships all next week. It has been permanently moved from Topeka, KS to Airpark in Lincoln, NE beginning this year. 1,200 drivers will be competing, which makes it the largest motorsport event in the nation.
If anyone within driving distance can attend, it would be well worth the drive just to watch. There will be everything from classic Shelby Mustang and Cobras and Corvettes to exotic sportscars like Lotus 7's, Europas, Porsches, MG's, etc.......
I will take my camera and try to get pictures and/or videos. Maybe I'll see a Festiva?
