  • Getting back into Festivas!

    Hey everyone,
It's been forever since I've been on here, ever since the untimely death of my old Festiva due to a winter accident... After a few months, I got another car, but it was just never the same... Gas mileage was eh, it wasn't super reliable like the Festy, friends didn't like it, and it just never quite had that Festy feeling...A few months ago I decided to off and on start looking for one, this time setting my requirements at it being a 5 speed w/ a/c. After looking forever, I think I finally found one!

Here she is in all her glory...

She's a 5 speed 88' XL, with A/C! It's a one owner car, by a little old lady, with 115,000 miles. The A/C needs a compressor, but besides that, it's good to go! It's been regularly maintained, and a new clutch and rebuilt transmission got put in around 90,000 miles. There's very minimal rust to my knowledge. I just made an offer, and I'm almost positive she'll accept it. (the guy said she rejected a $650 offer yesterday, but would accept $700, so I offered $725 to be safe).

So no, it's not technically set in stone yet, but almost! Wish me luck! I can't wait to have a Festiva again!

    P.S.
My old model was an 88' L (no options). What are the differences between it and an XL?

Just called back, and it's sold... To me!!! I'll be picking it up this Saturday...I hesitate to even say how far it is... I can't believe it, but I'm gonna be driving 8 hours to South Carolina for this thing! But if this car's as half as good as it looks, it'll be worth it to me! (especially with the 5 speed and A/C). The one thing this car didn't have was EFI since it's an 88', but my old one was carbed and I loved it dearly. I'm sure it will be fine.. Can't wait to pick it up!

Oh, and a Festiva will work with a regular Uhaul tow dolly, right?

Yea, meeting up with some people would definitely be fun. Oh, and I don't think I can wait till Oct. 2, but I still might come down for the meet (didn't even know about it to be honest). Sounds like fun!

And I have to say, as excited as I am, soo many friends and family think I'm absolutely crazy, both to be excited for what they view as a piece of junk and to be driving that far for one. I guess some people just don't get it? For me, not having a Festiva has been a huge negative change...It just kind of became part of my life! All my friends knew and loved my previous Festiva, as it was always the road trip/adventure car... Whenever we would go anywhere or do anything, we'd take the Festiva. It was just always there... Without it, so many road trips and fun just never happened. For me, I could always depend on it and trust it. If something ever happened, it was always small and easy to fix. And then there's that sense of being more part of the road/car. I can't get over how insulated you are from that in modern vehicles! Not to mention when it was gone, none of us could afford trips due to gas mileage, some were afraid to hurt or scratch their precious new cars on road trips, and things just never happened. So needless to say, I'm excited to be getting back into this!

Here's a couple pictures of my past Festiva, Rainbow Death .
