  • Festiva down!

I need to see if we have anyone in the Cincinnati, OH area!
One of my guests took a side trip on his way home and a previous problem with a rear bearing came back with a vengeance.
Anyone in the area willing to give him a hand please PM me.
He may have it under control, but another set of hands and tools would be welcome.

We still need to come-up with a code word for a damaged or incapacitated Festiva.

        Update
The bearing has welded itself to the spindle.
A new/good used spindle is in order.
He could cut the offending metal off, but he has no access to power or power tools.
Easiest fix is to pull the spindle and replace it along with the bearing and crush nut.
Once again anyone close enough to Cincinnati, OH to lend a hand or have a usable spindle available?

OK, it appears we do not have anyone near Cincinnati, OH.
I will be driving a spindle over to Festiva_Tunner later this morning.

man, i hate that setup on the rear...crush nuts....i had a rear bearing go out at 80 mph in 5 pm rush hr on 294 here in IL traffic one day.....wheel, tire and drum + assoc parts took a flyer off left rear and im in the outside lane next to glare wall.....man, the peeps behind me were all over the map slowing down ...i managed to get the thing over all three lanes without a scratch, thank god......the wheel + tire bounced off that wall and it also managed to make it over to the side without being hit....so when i finally got out an surveyed the result and walked back and picked up the tire...I said well, damage is done already, so i drove it down about two miles on three wheels to exit and get it off X-way...parked it and came back next day and picked up with trailer....tire, wheel and drum / backing plate were scrap...so trip to JY got me what i needed except for nice wheel ( alum wheel ),,,but guy on here from texas managed to have one,,,so he shipped it now i have a spare alum one which was nicer than one from JY...anyway, did brake job on rear complete but still need to go back in and take apart again...gonna drill spindle for cotter pin....bearing let go and went right over crush nut...because crush nut backed off...with cotter in place it would have never backed off...i think its a pretty stupid design..me thinks aspire setup is in future......" you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel " - kenny rogers

PU, I wish I could help you and your friend out.... I've also had this happen. I somehow limped it home (in a snow storm) with the rear wheel almost falling off. It was amazing(ly-stupid).

That is what I do now. Drill all my rear spindles and use a cotter pin.
