  • Knocking noise from rear on 96

Hi all haven't had my festiva for long it is a 4 door hatchback in Aus (have also heard them referred to 5 door) my prob is when you are driving along & hit a small bump there is a knocking noise coming from the rear. Thought it maybe the rear struts have checked the rubbers & done the old bounce test suspension seems fairly hard. Not sure what to do don't want to replace the struts if I don't have to. Have recently upgraded exhaust with new rubbers noise still there anything else I should look for?

This may sound stupid, but make sure your rear hatch is closed all the way. I had this problem, and it was driving me CRAZY! I opened up the hatch to see if my stuff in the back was hitting something, and after I closed it, the problem was gone. Hope this helps you...

I am not sure about the 4 door models, but in the 2 door models, the spare tire is in the floor behind the rear seat. Maybe something else is in the spare tire well moving around? Also, on some festivas, the rear seat folds forward, and maybe yours is not locking down all the way, and it is bouncing up and down. Just a couple of guesses...

Make sure the exhaust is adjusted properly and that its not banging on something. I had an Escort that I had new exhaust installed on. The installer made everything a little too tight and the tailpipe was hitting just below the bumper.

Thanks for the replies yea I sort of thought it might be something simple noise was the same before exhaust was changed. Had a couple of passengers in back yesterday so don't think seats are rattling around have also taken it for a drive with no spare or tools in back. Really starting to think suspension parts but not sure can't afford to replace struts etc if I don't need to
