  • I think I killed my Festiva....

No not minigun. I was driving the beater tonight when I looked at the temp gauge, it was pegged in the red, I pulled off the road and as I did it died. That little 3/8 bypass hose thats next to the thermostat busted. She was hot.

I called my step dad, ( he was only about a mile away ) and we replaced the hose and went to start it, it would spin and had spark but would not fire, He had a tow strap so we dragged it to his place for the night.

Tomorrow Ill take the trailer over just in case, Im afraid I lost a head gasket though.... looks like a 1.8 swap may be sooner then I hoped for

Wow that stinks. Seems like I remember that happening to someone else on here. That is a very much overlooked piece during a tune up and maintenance . I wonder how many are out there just barely hanging on. I have one on the '90 Plus that feels like a gummy worm. It is a shaped hose with a 90 degree bend so if you put a piece of straight hose in it will kink for sure. Anyone know of a source for the formed hose?

Could you just shave the head and do a new gasket?

Gates 18206. It will require cutting to length.
