  • Should I buy....

Hello all, I'm not a festiva owner but I'm thinking about getting one.. I currently drive a ford probe, and to sum it up, it's a money pit. I've had it for three years and just cant put up with it anymore. I initially wanted a truck to replace it, preferably a nissan, toyota, or mazda from the late 80's or early 90's. But then a few days ago I saw the Festiva, and I cant stop thinking about it. The only thing I'm hesitant of is its power--the thing is tiny! Also I've heard its real durable, is this true? How about the price of parts? My probe's been a pain in every aspect, except it is quick...Just thought this time I'd learn more about the car before making a move....

Yeah just read through some of the threads on this site. You will learn a ton! Festivas are very durable (assuming it is well taken care of )the power is what you can expect from a 1.3L 60 something hp car I like to think of it as a glorified Go kart! But it has plenty of get up and go for me.
But definitely look more on the site you will learn a ton!

300,000 is the average lifespan. At a recent meet there was one with over 500,000 miles, another with over 600,000 and one had 360,000 miles on the original engine, trans, starter, alternator, and... CLUTCH!!! They feel quick and are way fun to drive. Get it. It will become a lifelong passion. And it will keep money in your pocket.

I needed a small truck when I got my festiva, but they are hard to find that aren't beat to death. So I put a trailer hitch on my festiva and have the best of both worlds... cheap on MPG 47.6 on last tank AND a 4X8' trailer I built from a freebie camper from craigslist. and can tow whatever I needed a small truck's bed to haul.

Maintence is not very expensive, upgrades can get pricey-depending on how radical you get. I now have 367,000 miles on my 90L+, original engine lasted 333k, 1 set of tie rods, 2 sets of ft wheel bearings, several valve cover gaskets & timing belts...
                  Good luck, good cars- Michael.

Been driving mine for over three years now and recently had to do my first repair in 50,000 miles, change the battery. I averaged 50.2 mpg for over 40,000 miles! I love the chintzy little thing! If I feel the need for speed there is a Mustang in my garage..... People that don't own one just don't understand!!
