  • How old/heavy should a child be in the front seat with air bag?

This discussion has come up at our house just recently among my younger children who want to sit in the front seat of our 97 Astro. I've looked around a bit but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to the question so I'll ask it here...

What is the minimum recommended age/height/weight for someone to be sitting in the front seat with a first generation airbag?

    Thanks

Texas has a age/height minimum requirement so I would check with the law books first. 4'9" I believe is the height requirement... and I barely make it. lol

        Owner's manual is pretty vague.

Ford recommended in 1993 that the passenger be at least 5' tall and weigh 150 lbs.
My wife's grandmother could never ride in the Taurus' front seat because she could not meet this requirement. This was due to the fact that first gen airbags could snap your neck if you did not meet these requirements.
Second gen is different, but I haven't had to deal with that.
