  • Swaybar thicknesses

I went out and compared the swaybar thickness on my 4 Festys and the Aspire, along with some other Aspires I recently checked. Basically I used an adjustable wrench to get the diameter and then measured the gap with a tape measure. Here are the results:

Festiva manual cars have a 7/8" thick swaybar. (Need input on auto swaybars still; I suspect they are the same.)
Aspire ATX, MTX and MTX SE all have 1" thick swaybars.
To my surprise, Casper has the 7/8" bar, even though he has the Aspire swap.
90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods
09 Kia Rondo--a Festy on steroids!

    It's probably a Festy bar.

The Festiva bar will still fit with the Aspire swap. It's not necessary to use the Aspire bar.

The Aspire ATX bar you measured, was it off of a 2 door or a 4 door?

I've heard the 4 door ATX Aspire has a bigger bar.

Hey, I'm not too lazy to check!

All three of mine were 7/8" stablizer bar diameters: '89L MTX, '92L MTX and '93GL ATX.

'93GL "Prettystiva" ticking B3 and 5 speed, backup DD; full swaps in spring!
      '91L "AquaMutt" my '91L; B6 swap/5 speed & Aspire brakes, DD/work car
'92L "Twinstiva" 5sp, salvage titled, waiting for repairs...
      '93GL "Luxstiva," '94 B6 engine & ATX; needs overhauled
'89L "Muttstiva," now a storage bin, future trailer project

Right, I figured it's a Festy bar on Casper.

All 3 Aspires were 2 doors.

FWIW, I just pulled a front swaybar off a 1994? 4-door manual trans Aspire. Its diameter is 1" like all the rest. I'll look for the ATX 4-door, but I doubt it would be any different. If all the others are 1", why would they spend the money on an entry-level car to make a larger bar? They didn't even do it for the SE, which is "sportier", but obviously only in appearance.
