  • found a 93 b8 at jy with 48k ?

i found a b8 motor from a 93 protege at a jy with 48k on it , only thing is they said its been sitting on a shelf since the late 90's i think he said, they want 350 for it but im sure since its been there so long i could get it alot cheaper. is this worth it as its been sitting so long ? what would be reuqired to fire this engine up and not have it blow up ? im sure seals and stuff would go bad from sitting over 10 years ? any ideas ?

Sitting for 10 years? Can't hear it run? $350?

    I'd pass.

http://billsautosalvage.com <-- is this the place? They list it on their site at $450.00

Unless you're going to do a rebuild, I'd hold out for one that I know runs.

    Feel like taking a trip?

http://www.burlingtonautoparts.com has one with 63K for $250.00 Supposedly, it runs good.

          New seals all around.

Make sure the crank will turn, too.

Was it stored indoors? If so, then offer them something a little less than their asking price. That engine has sat for a long time.

Finally, check for nesting creatures. My first B6 had stuff camped out inside the intake system. Rodents or insects? Looked like both! I suppose it didn't hurt me to take it apart and clean things out as a learning exercise.

Figure out how much it's going to cost you to replace everything down to the headgasket in parts and deduct that from the asking price... then take a little more off and see if they'll take that.

yea its been indoors the whole time , or so they said. most of the jy's here keep there engines inside. im thinkin i should just find a complete cheap car , but 48k miles is tempting.
