  • That distant grandchild, the Rio

I'm still thinking about a Rio. Maybe that Cinco for $1700, or maybe a sedan later (the sedans are 190 pounds lighter).

I went to the Kia forums and checked out the Rio part. One guy had his 2002 engine go out (his wife didn't get the timing belt changed on time) and ordered a new engine. He mistakenly got an '02 Spectra engine. That would be Kia's BP version, if I'm not daft.

He claimed it bolted to the transaxle and the various connectors looked like they would work, but the crank position sensor was not the same.

The thread ended in July. No more on it.

    Hmmm.

Could it be possible that a BP swap into a Kia Rio could be done? The main concern here may be the ECU issue.

Lemme know if I'm asking stupid questions...

B6ZE is the Miata engine. Seems like the second gen Kia Rios ('03 to '05) had Mazda B series design engines!!

Methinks we need some more investigation into Kia 1st and 2nd gen engine, transmission and axle parts, as well as knuckles (1st gen knuckles).

    Oh, one more thing:
