Did you mean PN?
If so, think that was never completed see Festiva GTX posts.

I saw in the YouTube stats that my video had been linked here. Yes, it is somewhat slow, but on par with an older (50's or 60's) VW beetle. I finished installing a turbocharger last weekend, and it definitely improves the "performance" . I need some pointers, though because it leaks oil fairly badly from the compressor side. I have calculated as much as 67 MPG with this engine. I am still collecting data for turbocharger mileage.
Thanks for the interest!
Also, I almost forgot to mention that this engine is dirt cheap; you can get one for less than $800 from Surplus Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Last I saw, GTX was selling his diesel project on CL.
The vid shows you getting 60 mpg. I'm pretty sure if you drove a stock efi Festy using the same driving formula that you were driving, it would get 60 mpg. 0-25 in 25 seconds, never surpassing 30 mph.
The novelty of it is neat, but, maybe I'm the only one, but my time is worth something and I need to get there to get paid.
Hopefully you can get it up in power to where the normal Joe can get better gas mileage and better speed. I'll definately be staying tuned in on your project.
Are you in Omaha?

Now that's darn near priceless!!
I dont know about 60 in a stock festiva. Just think about cruise and idle, he only needs to feed 2 little cylinders, not 4. A smaller engine is always capable of more mpg. Like the 3cyl 5 speed metros, they are capable of high numbers because of their low displacement. However there is a point where being underpowered has a negative effect on economy.
I've gotten up to 53 in a stock festy. Long drive, following a truck, at 55mph. I could see 60 if you kept it even slower.
Is the top speed issue because of the lack of power, or because the gearing in the stock festy box is wrong? I don't know much about those little motors, but I'm guessing its not designed to rev high enough to have sustained high speeds with the festiva gear box. We were talking about this a while ago and someone mentioned using something along the lines of an electronic gear plate... its a couple inch thick plate that goes between the engine/trans and switches between a 'low' range and 'high' range electrically. So you would essentially have 10 gears, 5 low and 5 high, and switch between them via a button on the shifter or something. I think with a setup like that and a turbo on that little diesel you may be able to get some pretty high numbers. Acceleration would still be slow... but thats what BPt festys are for

the keeper of a wonderful lil car, Skeeter.
Current cars:
91L "Skeeter" 170k, Aspire brakes, G15, BP, Advancedynamics coil overs, etc. My first love.
1990 Kawasaki Ninja 250 - my gas saver, 60+mpg - 40k
2004 MotoGuzzi Breva - my "longer range" bike - 17k
I would think the gearing of the stock festiva trans on that little diesel mtor might be a bit much, a turbo on that diesel engine would probably help a lot
When the weather clears a little, I will make a new video... it is really pretty drivable. The uphills on the highway are really the only problem, as the speed will drop to 55 or 50. I live in Wichita, KS.
From a philosophical/logical standpoint, when you're talking about city driving under 50 mph, and stoplights, etc, it is no slower than anything else. I can reach speeds of 35 to 50 mph in 1/2 mile, depending on terrain. It has been my experience that I catch aggressive city drivers at the next light, or at worst, lost a minute or two to my lack of acceleration. Normally, it's a wash. Even across town on the highway, 50-60 MPH vs 60-65 is a small time difference.
Let's say I want to get across Wichita, 25 miles, and I only go an average of 55 MPH 25Mi*HR/55mi = 0.455 hr * 60min/hr = 27.3 min.
In an ordinary car, if you were traveling the same distance at 65mph: 25/65 = 0.385 hrs or 23.1 min. The difference is 4.2 minutes.
Now, for Wichita's major east-west highway, 65 is speeding. At 60mph, the speed limit, the difference is 2.3 min.
In conclusion, the lack of power is transparent in relation to getting around town in a timely fashion.
That being said, I would not want to take it on the interstate where traffic is going 75, nor would I want to use it anywhere with lots of hills or high elevation.
I also think it is the wrong car to deliver pizzas with, etc. For daily commuting however, it works very well.
I would think the gearing of the stock festiva trans on that little diesel mtor might be a bit much, a turbo on that diesel engine would probably help a lot
Thats just wrong, the paint scheme is neat though
Yes, the gearing is all wrong. Any ideas how I could change it, or at least the final drive? I have access to at least 2 more Festy transaxles
