  • MPG Run--87 Mazda 323

Today I took my new to me 323 out for a mileage run. Did the usual routine: filled up the tank carefully, bouncing the rear bumper to get air out, drove it my usual 85.4 mile test route, filled it again. Corrected for the odo, which was only off 1/2% low. Drove a pretty steady 60 MPH. Tires are 185/70x13, inflated to 32 PSI cold. Little wind, and temp was about 35 degrees.

The result: 38.9 MPG. This car has a SOHC 1.6 and weighs about 350 lbs more than a Festy. I did have the heater fan and radio on. My Aspire weighs about the same as the 323, but has the 1.3 motor.
90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods
