    Not sure if this is the right category for this...

    I've tried searching but couldn't find anything... is there a thread or sticky that lists what other makes of cars have parts that will fit a festiva (In my case a '91)?

    From what I have been able to gather so far:

    * 88 - 93 models mostly interchange parts?
    * RX-7 has some parts that will fit
    * 323 has parts that will fit
    * Kia obviously

    Is there anyway that a sticky could be made that shows what vehicles have what parts for a Festiva to make it easier for newbies like me when we head on down the wreckers or order parts?

    For you in Austrailia, you should be able to find some Mazda 121's.

      Actually, a better find would be a diesel Mazda Familia for an engine swap!

        That's an awesome idea! Would save some of us alot of head scratching when trying to figure out what interchanges It would be great to build some sort of knowledge base where people can post up what parts from other makes and models interchange with our cars. Kind of like the "what wheels fit my car" thread.

          I'm assuming everyone means, "what will fit a Festiva without any modifications"? LOL! Yes, I too think that a sticky would be a cool repository for this type of info!

          Focustiva: Because I was told it was was impossible to fit a Focus bumper on a Festiva.

            I think there are commercial cross references for used and rebuilt car parts. There are a limited number or parts manufacturers and they make parts for several makes and models. The car compaines like Ford and Mazda do a lot of design and testing and own the patents. Car companies buy shares in other car companies and cross licence patents. For example I once owned and Opel (Germany) which looked a lot like a Datsun (Japan), both of which were partly owned by GM. Since the Festivas are pretty old they would be covered by obsolete parts publications which you might be able to get from some business which doesn't want it any more.

              Yes. Little or no modification. If it's a direct fit it can be designated as such or if it requires some modification maybe have a short description of what needs to be done. With that said you may have to find the line between "requires some modification" and what would be considered a custom install. For example; if it takes more than 3 steps to make it work then it doesn't fit the "some modification required" definition and would be considered more of a custom install. Or just keep it as a direct replacement only database. I guess it depends on how far you wanna take it.

                I really like this idea.

                Here's what I can think of off the top of my head.

                Overhead map light / dome light from ford escorts is a simple mod.

                Grab handles from a 88 / 89 Mazda 323 bolt right in. (there's threaded bolts behind the roof lining. I wonder if this was ever available as a dealer option? Fresh would know.)

                Intermittent / variable wiper stalk from a mercury tracer can be installed right into the signal / wiper stalk housing. (One of my favorite upgrades!) If you look hard enough, you can find one *without* the cruise control option.

                Early 323, early rx7 steering wheels are a straight swap.

                The trunk lights from ford escort wagons will fit in the special "notch" on the right hand rear speaker deck. Early Festiva models (88/89's I think) even have the wiring for them. (I wonder if this was ever available as a dealer option? Fresh would know.)

                Gas cap and trunk release mechanisms & cables from early 323's and Tracers are apparently easy to install. Don't quote me on that one, I haven't done it yet.

                The gear piece from escort wagons, that allows you to have a rear wiper in the "down" position is also apparently an easy mod.

                Power mirrors from early Protege's and 323's can be made to fit by drilling and or elongating one hole. The wiring is another matter (there was a sticky on the pin outs)

                  Ive never seen them on a festiva but you are correct about there being a threaded spot for them in the festy roof. It will only work on cars with the soft headliner. That would be older US festies or Canadian festys. The auto belts interfere with installing in the newer ( 90-93 ) US models.

                  Yes this was a festiva option, and the wiring is in place for the light and the hatch latch to work the light.

                  The power protege mirrors are direct plug in(s) . They were on the sets I installed anyway. No wiring change. You do have to enlongate some holes.

                            There's also this thread, which was in the thread Geneva linked to. I do think a condensed version, as a sticky, would be a great idea.

                              ford aspire suspension, direct upgrade, mirage rear kyb agx struts upgrade, escort gt front calipers and rotors i believe are an upgrade, aspire master cylinder, kia rio 03 studed hubs (same as aspire but with studs!) 323 front struts from bf, if you wanted to keep stock bolt pattern capri brakes with aspire lower control arms is a easy big brake upgrade, Ford escort GT tie rod ends are an upgrade. early toyota camrys had clear bumper lenses that seem to fit a festiva. escort gt seats via Muscle_car1 post can be modified to work. 323 gauge cluster (not for the weak) umm window cranks froma 323 and tracers i believe are the same same with door handel bezels
