  • A bad day

I was heading over to a friends shop to do some work on the Festiva today when this SUV pulls out of a church right in front of me. The roads were snow covered and as I tried to slow down to avoid hiting the SUV my car started to slide, it hooked the side of the road and was sucked into a big ditch.
I was sitting at a 45 degree angle, I tried to rock the car but it was useless. Somewhere in between trying to rock it and getting pulled out the tranny is now stuck in drive only. The car goes forward in nuetral and in reverse it seems like it is stuck in both forward and reverse. It struggles to rev up in reverse and won't move at all.
I am so fed up with this car its been a struggle to try and fix it since I bought it. First I had to put another engine in because the keyway on the crank was destroyed, then I had to rebuild the front end all new ball joints and tie rods. Then there was the deer I hit, had to fix that. Then it got cold out and I had to replace the heatercore and T stat. Then today this.
I really don't know if I even want to fix it, it has been a constant repair since i bought it and it still needs a few things. I might just cut my losses and get rid of it as is. It's a shame too because the body and interior are in great shape. I pushed it aside to another day before I did something I'd regret.
I some one wants a nice car that needs some work make me an offer!

If you had insurance and hit him, who's fault would it have been? Would you have gotten much for it? Would you have survived? Did the other driver stop?

Good news you were not injured.

                Brian,

Sorry to hear of the car problems.

Good news is that you were not injured.

Reflect about the car awhile and then decide what you want to do.

Hey mate, sry to hear about your accident. I have never had the experience of snow covered road driving but in any case I can imagine the whole thing would have been unsettling! The frustration in your post is evident and understandable... Glad to hear that you came out of it unscathed personally.

Yeah, best to shelve it until you really know what you want to do. Once a little time goes by, you may decide it's time to get it back in shape.

It's a Festiva pandemic, and we both caught it...

My clutch finally gave out today and had to have it towed.

It seems like you've had a lot of frustration with this car, but I hope things turn around!

                              Its winter

I had a lower rad hose leak yesterday. Figured it was a loose clamp. Go to tighten the clamp and find that the slotted head is up against the a/c compressor. No way to get a screw driver on it. Had to hacksaw the clamp off. Since the clamp was depressed on the hose I ruined the hose too. Called four McAuto parts, none had a lower rad hose. Go dig through my piles of part and found four upper hoses but no lower. Busted a knucked on the rad getting the hose off. Of course at five degrees my hands were already numb from the antifreeze which seems to also work as a clotting agent. An hour later I completed the repair with a used hose off of another car. The cold/snow seems to compound every little problem. Come on spring.
