  • Should I buy this Tracer

    I was thinking about buying this for swap material. It is 5 minutes from my house. High miles though and has idle problem. If I could get it for $200 -250 would it be worth it? I just bought a transmission and two axles from a salvage yard for $275. Just looking for if its worth it with the miles and run problem. Here is the info:

    1988 Mercury Tracer - $400

    1988 Mercury Tracer. 1.6L mazda 4 Cyl engine. 5 speed manual transmission 191,xxx Miles.Idles high when cold. Throttle position sensor? New timing belts and serpentine belts. New head gasket and water pump has receipts. Has extra brake master cylinder and brake booster also has extra alternator. Body is not pretty but it runs. Most of the brake lines are new. One is kinked up due to it was leaking, it is only a few inches of line and would be an easy fix, it is on the driver side rear wheel. Car stops but i would recommend towing it to get this fixed.

    it sounds like it wouldn't be the best candidate for a donor car, even for $200-$250

    1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

    If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

      Since you already have a transmission, I would spend my money on a good, low mileage engine.

      This place --> http://www.erniesusedautoparts.com/ has a b6 with 120K on it for $300.00

        400 bucks! absolutely
        it'll do the 1/8 in 13.7, spin tires, and make all my drunk buddies giggle.
