Well, as most of you know I bought my first Festi only a few weeks ago. Got a great buy as really cheap price and was happy as a pig in mud...
Until I got the Blue Slip done. I don't know how rego works in the States but here in Aus if your car has been unreg'd for over 3 mths you have to get it fully worked over by a mechanic who goes through everything to see if it's still roadworthy and complies to RTA standards etc (before the three months we only need a Pink Slip which is basically safety check before rego).
Anyhow the car is mechanically perfect as I knew, but I was, rather hesitantly, informed that the VIN did not match the car!!!!! The VIN is for a 5door '92 model car... and on top of that the compliance plate looks to be tampered with though there is no definite indication of it.
As most of you probably already are aware, in the engine bay 'Ford Festiva 3 door' is inscribed/painted on the wall. Well in mine the '3' has been scratched out and the ID plate is clearly visible where its been cut and scratched.
With the compliance plate the paint around it is rough and bubbly and the plate has minor scratches. However there is no welding to indicate the plate has been cut out and rewelded on - so that is hopeful. It could just be that someone has repainted the engine bay... (please, God!)
When i saw it on ebay i did a VIN check on the number that was supplied, which turned out fine obvioulsly cause the car has been rego'd in that number but i never thought to actually look at the plate! Stupid me!
Anyhow, as it stands now, I have to get the car rechecked by RTA and prayerfully I can get it reidentified (up to another $400) and if not... I am praying they will at least give it back to me so I can find a shell to transplant all the stuff over into.
But I am so not happy right now! There is the possibility I may not get the car back and if it has been used in any illegal instance I may have to face the coppers...
