  • Chevy Aveo RS

I am so digging this concept of this New Aveo. This definitely blasts the fit and fiesta out of the water. Will need a daily driver while i can work on my project cars.

Detroit Editor Todd Lassa takes a look at the Honda Fit's soon-to-be-competition, the Chevy Aveo RS Concept at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show.Read the full story...

I have a 2008 Aveo 5....yes, thay are made by Daewoo....I like the car just fine. It doesn't inspire the kind of feeling I have for the Festiva, but that's to be expected. The Aveo rides well for a small car and has decent acceleration. I have been slightly dissatified with the mileage, though. I am a very careful driver as pertains to MPG and I have wrung 40 MPG out of the Aveo, but normally the MPGs in combined highway/city driving have been in the 32-35 range. One thing I tell everyone about the Aveo, though, is that they have had issues with the timing belt breaking before the 60,000 prescribed check, some as early as 40,000...I am entering the 40,000 mile range soon, so I will be changing the timing belt soon. That's not enough to make me not recommend them, but check out all the different cars in this size before making a purchase.

I went to the IAS in Greenville last year, and sat in an Aveo. The seats were very minivanesque, being high off the floorboard, and while I'm not tall by any means and neither is my wife (5'7 and 5'2 respectively), we still felt extremely claustrophobic, and leaning the seats back didn't give any more comfort, because then I was too far away from the steering wheel, and she felt like she was staring at the overhead felt. After watching the crush test, it was a definite no. This coming from me, a Festiva owner, obviously I wasn't concerned about the crush test when I bought THIS car, but the headroom is MUCH better, and the car was built in 1988. I think, in a head-on collision, the Aveo would put your head through the glass even with a full assembly of safety equipment.

That's odd....I wonder if the newer models have a different seating position...I am 5'11" and a large dude and have no issue with room in my '08.
