  • Unusual Problem

This is baffling me. A few months ago, I noticed my front license plate was bent. I just figured I caught it on a curb...I straightened it out and went on with life. Now, almost daily, the plate is bent in the same place after I get done with my daily commute. I know I'm not catching it on a curb or a snow bank. It has to be air pushing it? However, it is bent out away from the car. Anyone else ever have this issue? (Sorry if the picture is huge....can't figure out how to reduce it??)

I think somebody is effing with you. No way that gets bent on its own.

Man...I don't get it. I got in the car this morning and it wasn't bent. I get out of my car once I got to work and check it....and it's bent?

Seems like it has to be some sort of negative air flow, but how thick is your license plate? Ours are pretty difficult to bend, which makes me doubt wind, but then...?

Actually, the license plate is pretty thin and very easy to bend. It has to be some air flow doing it. I'm guessing I did catch on something once that caused it to bend and now that bend is the weakest part of the plate. It bends on the exact same crease everytime. (I just checked again, the plate is really thin.....not made as thick as they used to be. Maybe there are not enough inmates in Iowa?)

I don't really see how you could get airflow in that direction strong enough to bend it out that way, unless you're driving 100 mph backwards (doubtful) Still think someone is effing with you. No stops for coffee or what not on your commute?

Maybe the metal in your plate is broken and just the paint/vinyl is holding it together?

Edit: after more picture consideration, i doubt this

maybe there is a DING in it and when you straigten it each day, it then gets DONG'ed... if that makes any sense. The plates are thin, and once they bend they like to stay that way... kind of like pulling out a dent in a panel.

Holy Moses!! I did go through the automatic car wash this morning...and I do go through it a lot. It is the kind with the rolling brushes too! I'm always worried it's going to rip off my antenna....never thought about the plate. Makes sense as the brushes spin backwards, away from the car. Thanks wybnrml....this was driving me crazy!

No problem, my front plate is bent up really bad from the carwash, it usually gets bent on both sides with mine.

before adding the cover to it check that its not illegal in your state - I would add a heavy metal licence plate frame and solve this issue

Those brush type car washes can be really hard on cars. I went through one and it tore off the rear wiper. It's been coin washes ever since!
