  • what could it be?

I was talking to a guy about an aspire he has for sale, and he told me that it might need a new engine. The reason he said it would need an engine is the customer (no idea) ran the oil dry and now it will only turn a 1/4 turn but not start. I have yet to see the car but was just wondering what you guys think it could be. Oh yeah its a 97 Aspire.

The motor is probably hosed. As in seized. If the rest of the car is in good shape, a motor swap may be worth it. If not, buy it, remove the parts necessary to do the Aspire swap, and mail them to me.

Buy the Aspire cheap and swap in a B6 or BP.

              I think your right!
Actually, think you could, but swapping/re-wiring the engine harness is way more work than it's worth for a B6.

Actually a b6 using a b3 massair might run better than a b6 with the older b3 ecu. You would have to rob the 1997 engine of its crank position sensor array and put it in the same exact place on the b6 which isnt a big deal, better if both engines are out of the car. Member iceracer can elaborate. The only problem is you can\t upgrade aspire ecus to match the engine as easily as you can with festivas. This is why i trashed both my aspires. California is very scrict about this sort of thing. The only ob2 engines you can swap are 1.5 protege engines, and they don't have a lot of support on here.

halac0ax it all sepends how much he wants for it and what condition the rest of the car is in. i.e. interior. It might be worth it to buy it if it is cheap enough. I would possibly look at rebuilding the engine yourself if you feel comfortable or look into buying a engine from the junkyard.
