  • Miss firing cylinder in my truck

Well today I figured I would play hooky for half the day. Well little did I know it would be at a cost. I ended up going junk yarding today to look for items for the festy. So I took my truck just in case, cause you never know what you will come home and the truck has plenty of room. Well my truck was driving just fine until I put 20 bucks worth of gas in it as it was Empty. It had been sitting on Empty for about two days. So I drove to the first junkyard and this is when I noticed my truck misfiring. I figured it could have been condensation in the fuel tank from sitting on E. So naturally I bought some ISO-HEET to absorb the water and I put in my tank. When I got home my check engine light came on and the code says that cylinder three is misfirein. I checked my coil pack or COP and tested out fine. I then looked at the spark plug and it seemed fine I think. It was an ashy white color and there looked like there was some deposits on it. So I removed the deposits and put it back together and she still misfires. I think I am going to change the spark plugs, but is there anything else that could cause this issue? It is a 2001 Ford F-150 super crew 4x4 with a 4.6 v8 in it.

you proabably know 3 things required to run.

well, as far as i know the ecm will record a "missfire" if any of the 3 things are absent. since you mentioned fuel, that is my guess.

clear the code, filler up and see what happens

i recall reading that this ia accomplished by noting the rotational speed of the crank or something. by doing so the computer can note when the event occured and identify a cylinder.

now this might be generic and/or outdated info, but I think it is cool...

I do plan on filling her up. I'm just looking forward to my wallet becoming empty. Its days like this I am glad to have a festiva. Even with an oil leak she still cheaper than filling up the old truck. Don't get me wrong my truck is like my first child, however the festiva is like the baby of my Vehicles.
