  • What would you guys suggest I do..

Okay, so as some of you may know already my radiator blew the other week in my 93' festy, and today I put a new one in, and now I have a new problem with the car. Yay! now the car sputters and dies whenever you try to move (still idles ok in neutral and park) also it stumbles when you try to rev it now. Seems like everytime I think I'm about to get the car fixed something new pops up that I have to fix, which sucks because it's holding me back from getting a job, which I need to do soon so I can save up some money for college and such. Tomorrow I'm going to work on the 89' some and see if I can get that to run again (that car used to run great but then went downhill a while ago after the TPS plug got messed up somehow and caused the car to cut-out while driving, when that happened it was my parents car and they took it to a shop to get it fixed and ever since then more and more things went wrong that weren't wrong before.. If I can get one of these 2 cars to run decent/reliably enough to get a job I'll probably save up my money to buy a more reliable daily driver and just have the festivas for fun/project cars or sell all but one of them.. Think that would be the best thing to do?

I sure hope that isn't the problem.. the car got a new headgasket when Wes was over for a few days and installed the aspire head.

inside of cap still wet from when the rad blew....take it off and wipe down the inside....use wire dryer on the wires and around the disty and coil. Not sure how your weather has been but it is tough to dry things out around here lately.

Also spray down the wires with WD 40, it will help with any moisture they might ave. If the wires are old you might want to replace them anyway. And do like Willie said and dry out the dist cap.

I didn't want to be the first to say this, but that's what I've been thinking since last night. Couldn't hurt to check the inside of the cap, and inside the intake tube, just to make sure you're not sucking coolant in with the air.

I know you can't really check your coolant, but might want to think about an oil change, just to see how the oil looks.

I had similar problems over the years and it was spark/ignition related always. One way to tell if that is it is to start at the dizzy and spray with wd 40. If it still gives you fits then spray the spark plug wires. When I was really poor and in college or it was winter time and I didn't have a garage (aah the 90's) then I would just spray the dizzy and wires with wd 40 and that would normally get me rolling.

Hope that isn't it, should be able to work on it this weekend.. haven't yet since it's still stuck at my friends house. If it does turn out to be the head gasket I'll probably start driving the 89' again for a while since I got it to run again.

When the rad blew the tempature was creeping up but never got out of the normal range.. prolly 3/4 the way up when it was the hottest.
