  • That could be the Problem...

Hopped in my 89 today, headed out to some yards to see about a black fender, and some other stuff, and halfway there, my car starts shaking rather violently from the rear end of the car. Pull over, do a little checking, and find this. Shaking started pretty much right after I 'almost missed' a bomb crater of a pot hole in the road.

I'd say I had a few steel belts let go. What say you?

Did you miss the hole barely or did you hit it?

      It's fine.

Your luck is better than mine. My car toasted a rear wheel bearing the other day (on the highway, left lane in traffic, doing 80). The spindle is done.

Oh well, time for the Aspire swap.

Ha, bad thing is, it's been growing since I took it off the car.

wybnrml, just barely caught the edge of the crater. It wasn't as big as the one that killed the Malibu, but it is big. Called State Roads after I got home to tell them about it. Basically their response was "sorry for your bad luck, but we've got a blizzard coming. Maybe the snow will fill in the hole."

LOL, sounds like MODOT If you take pictures of the damage (check) and the pot hole that you hit most DOT's will replace your tires and or wheels if damaged.

If you hit that pot hole, I'd check the wheel bearing. I hit a pot hole like two days before my wheel bearing went. I'm thinking the bump messed it up.

I had a belt cut loose on my lr tire coming home from NC last summer. I was doing 80 and as the tread peeled off it ripped off the corner of my bumper. It was a loud THWAP THWAP THWAP and i thought i was gonna lose it. I had to drive the remaining 400 miles on the spare :confused3:

I have seen the Douglas tires do that before.

Solution...........No Douglas tires and wide tires to avoid potholes and/or have a better chance of not falling off in them. Glad your OK Scott.
