  • Noise..

Ok...so just how much "noise" do your Festivas make? I don't know if I have a wheel bearing issue..or if these little boogers are just noisy....

I can drive around in town and not notice it..but when you get up to 50mph or so its a whole lot of noise..on the interstate its pretty hard to talk..or hear my 1988 Ford factory speakers

Are these cars just generally pretty noisy? (tires road noise etc) or do you think I may have a wheel bearing issue? I plan to try to look into it this weekend...don't really know how to check them other than to just jack the car up and give then a push/pull/spin....

A kind of roaring noise is the best way I can describe bearings when theyre going bad. Itll sound like youve got noisy tires but it usually turns out its bearings. As far as other road noise. Yes youll hear quite a bit in these cars Ive found. If youre getting a whistling noise from your doors. You can carefully tweak them so they seal tighter when closed. Just roll down the window and with the door open give the top corners of the door a gentle push inward.

A guy your size needs to be careful. Just a slight tounch to the door should do the trick. Also 22 year old speakers. Just put a louder radio and replace your rear bearings

Besides tweaking the upper doors, I added some foam window insulation from the hardware store. It definitely helps with wind noise.

Bad wheel bearings sound like a cropduster airplane.

Mine's pretty noisy, and there's nothing wrong with it.

The biggest culprit is the engine. My auto doesn't have overdrive and when you really get moving, the engine roars. I'm thinking of grabbing some sound deadener from another car and putting it under the hood.

I would recommend upgrading the sound system. I got a nice Kenwood unit with some Pioneer speakers, and it sounds great. My only beef is the dash rattles when you turn it up lol.

KyMoonshine, for most people just need to jack-up the back wheel and grab it at the 12 and 6 O'clock position and push the 12 o'clock position and pull the 6 O'clock position and see if you feel a small amount of wiggle. Do the same in the 9 and 3 O'clock positions. But it would be quicker for you to just pick up the back end and have someone do the test. If you feel any play/wiggle time to replace the bearrings. This will be part of your "road noise". Replacing the bearings wont make it quiet, but your ears wont ring anymore. The rear bearings can really create a lot of noise if bad.

                  Thank you...

I feel like most of the noise is coming from the front passenger side..I was going to jack it up tomorrow and do the "wiggle" test...
