  • top speed in each gear

hi everyone... im new here but i just picked up a 91 5 speed festiva... i had a 89 4 speed in high school and that was a fun car but it died...

i dont have the tach in my gauge cluster so my question in the title is at what speed in each gear do i redline at...

i've tried searching it in a million different ways and i cant find anything useful...

so if anyone could help me i would appreciate it a lot...

Welcome to the site. I'm sure someone here can help you. Also put your location in your profile. And if you look around I'm sure someone here has a tach cluster and it'll plug right in.

In my festiva I can get around the below speeds - red line is different for each gear (I'm sure you've noticed your rev limiter in first)
30 in first with it screaming
      45-50 in second
      70-80 in third
      90 in fourth
99 in fifth (this is the max I'm comfortable pushing the 1.3)

The 1.3 will make its most power in the top end of second and through third

Generally when I run it hard I shift as follows
      first to second - 15-20
      second to third - 35-45
third to fouth - Generally I skip this as I can get up to highway speed in third and go straight to fifth but if I'm going for faster I go up to 65 - 70
fourth to fifth - 85-90 You will get faster response in fourth than fifth (not alot though but enough)

hey thanks alot guys... its just nice to know where my limits are whether i go that far or not...

this site as been really useful so far... my other vehicle that my wife gets all to her self now is a pontiac aztek... a very polarizing vehicle that people either love it or hate it(not very many people love it though)... i have a forum for that too and its nice to be helpful to people cause when you need help they'll give it right back...

Hey, nice avatar, looks just like my Festiva. I've only driven mine once so far (I have a tach) but vs. every other vehicle I've ever owned, it sounds like your killing it at like 4k, so don't just go by the engine note, lol.

I've seen it done - shortly there after it sounded like someone let loose a roll full of quarters in the overhead.
My buddy sold the fester after that - said it would get him in too much trouble - If I had only known then what I know now about festivas I would have snached it out of his hands. (90 LX sold for 50 bucks and a case of beer with a blown valvetrain and a bent rod)
