Saturday night, while doing my "roadie" thing with the Arbogast band, I was preparing to take down the lights, which were hanging from a 12 foot ceiling in the nightclub. So I get the 9 foot ladder, which i've been up dozens of time there, place it and climb up. I get to the top and all of a sudden, the ladder leaves me! Just as I was reaching for the lights, I feel it start to go. Lucky for me(and some quik reflex's)
I had hung the lights from the 2 1/2 inch copper pipe for the sprinkler system, and as the ladder started to go, I grabbed the pipe with my left hand, swung my right hand over and got both hands on the pipe!
So...i'm "hanging" from the ceiling with the lights between my arms. The guys in the band were all close, so I yell..hey...hey...can somebody get the ladder for me?!
They look around and dont see me right away...they look up and...hey what are you doing up there?
Ron the vocalist is closest, and gets to me in about 1 second and shoves the ladder back up and under me.
I can laugh about it now, but I shudder to think of the other outcomes!
Now it's just a story that will be told countless times and I will laugh right with them.
But for about a split second there......whew!!!!!
