  • 2 Step Backfire

We got bored last night and decided to start playing with the 2 step controller thats hooked into my clutch pedal and 6al box, standing there it sounds like a shotgun going off and the percussion makes your clothes rattle. I thought it was funny at least. Car has the 1.3 in it still with manifold flange back 2" exhaust with thrust turbo 2.5" glasspack and ANSA DTM muffler, and cone filter.

playing with my festy and figured out how to make it backfire with the msd 2 step controller

it sounds like you are reving it up past where the 2 step kicks in... then it cuts the spark out till it gets down to the right rpm level, and by that time the exhaust is all full of fuel and then when the spark come back it makes one big bang... i wouldnt recomend doing that lol.... hold the switch for the rev limiter and then rev it up and it should stay at the right rpm... and more vids please

i didnt realize the switch was on while driving and discovered that it will do that when you shift it after 4k (2 step set for 3k) once you push the clutch pedal to the floor the 2 step kicks in if the main switch is on, its scared the crap out of me when it first happend since all you see is a bright orange flash and a loud bang, if i use the 2 step as its intended to be used itll backfire a little bit but nowhere near as exciting haha

its a good way to clear out the cat too, just regular 2 step emptied it out for me, but i replaced everything anyway since i was bored and had a bunch of bends and pipe laying around

it was actually really easy to wire up, for the signal wires you use the wires going to the oem coil, i couldnt get the car to rev past 3 just using the pickup wire off the distributor, the 6al-2 is alot nicer though it wires in the same and you dont have to buy the 2 step module or the rpm chips since they are built in.

just warning you now, 2 step is fun, make sure you dont have a cat, and others will ask you to hit 2 step just because, every other day someone asks me to hit it, ill put a vid up in a bit of another backfire and just straight 2 step

good plan, just dont 2 step with the cat in or your going to be shooting bits of molten catalyst out of the exhaust tips after doing it a few times, although its fun to watch. I just hacked my exhaust off right after the flange that bolts to the mani and just ran 2" all the way back with a 2.5" ID glasspack with 2"-2.5" adapters on both ends and my dtm muffler with 3" upswept tips, fortunately no emissions where i live and i do my own Pa inspection so having a cat isnt a concern hehe, plus i dont have to hear the constant ticking of the exhaust when i shut it off at night because it can flow now and not get insanely hot like it used to
