    Completely street legal?

Terrafugia has completed flight testing of the Transition POC (Proof of Concept).
    Introducing the Transition.
Simply land at the airport, fold your wings up and drive home.
Fly a distance of 725 kilometers at speeds of 115 km/hour
The time required for the transition from plane to car takes less than 30 seconds.
Vehicle speed 185 km/hour, range is 724 km on highways
Vehicle is fueled with gasoline, and the price of the car is expected to be around $200,000
The first shipment will be in 2011

I'm inspired to put wings on my Festiva next!
I wonder if it would be legal to fly across the border in, to Ohiostiva?
Do I have to land at the airport? or could I touch down on the I-90?
Customs would be obsolete once everyone has one of these puppies.

two words... insurance and lawyers. We'll never have flying cars. Not due to a lack of engineering but insurance and lawyers.

          1993 Ford Festiva L ($650)
Mazda 1.8L BP - PaceSetter Header (in progress)
          Aspire Swap - 15x6.5 wheels, 205/50/15 tires

I think I saw one of those. I'm up in the Woburn MA area a lot and I saw a very funky looking plane at a regional airport.

Street legal it may be, but I'd like to see someone drive it through Boston.

only 80" wide, and if built as part of a kit, or purchaced as a fully built "kit", you would apply for a specialty vehicle title (provided it passes a basic functions test) and voila... road legal!

I'd take the flying AMC Matador from "The man with the Golden Gun". But then, I'm an AMC fan.

Note the Festiva alloys on the front wheels.

I emailed them about that and the FWD running gear a long time ago but they never responded.

Here's the pic link. It was too large to attach.

I like the large NACA duct on the "hood", but not much else style wise.

They are with maybe 99.9% accuracy. If not, they may be the rarer 13" version from Europe. Those would be extremely unlikely to show up at MIT.

I say they're Festy alloys with no centercaps. Just on the front, mind you. Different wheels on the back. I asked them if they used Festy halfshafts, too, or anything else. No answer. Maybe someone else could ask them.

There's no way Terrafugia could be using Festiva halfshafts. Steel, except for small critical parts like fasteners and bearings, is simply too heavy to put on airplanes. Wheels on small airplanes are always an aluminum alloy.
